The College of Medicine and Health Sciences is the newest addition among the list of colleges of Bahir Dar University. It was established in October 2007 with an objective of training competent medical doctors and other cadres of health professionals. Currently, the college is accepting students from Federal Ministry of Education assigned to attend medical school or other health sciences (school of nursing... ..).It also provides bachelor level training to nurses and health officers in its extension (continuing education) program.

Africa Medical College is a privately owned medical institution established in 2003/4 mainly to iron out the scarcity of health professionals of the country with the initial capital of 15,000,000 birr in Addis Ababa Bole and Kirkos sub-cities. Like any newly established private colleges of the country, Africa Medical College sets out its training program in four departments in diploma level. These are; clinical Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, pharmacy and X-ray Technology. Unlike other colleges, some of the prospective graduate of the college are hoping to be employed in the six Africa Higher Clinics, which are found in Addis Ababa. These would be having its own share in alleviating the unemployment problems of the graduates, which are employed at the moment by private investment endeavors in Ethiopia. Basic Education Association in Ethiopia (BEAE) is a coalition or an association of 45 indigenous non-governmental organizations and 14 partner international organizations working in education currently. It is also a network that creates a forum for its members to share experiences, collaborate and cooperate to promote Basic Education for all. Member organizations of BEAE have intervened in education and community development in almost all parts of the country. BEAE, therefore, is an umbrella organization that has taken the initiative of bringing together, supporting and linking the member organizations to maximize their efforts to make education accessible, particularly to those who don't have the opportunity.

ABC’s Distinctiveness Accreditation and Endorsement ABC has a cooperative educational agreement with Global University (GU), USA, and jointly confers an accredited Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Theology to those who meet all of the academic and ministerial requirements of both institutions. Global University serves in 120 countries and is accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, Washington, D.C. GU also works closely with the Accrediting Council for Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA) as a result of which ABC graduates have become eligible to apply to theological graduate schools accredited by ACTEA that are operating both in Ethiopia and in other parts of Africa. ABC also offers an Advanced Diploma. The Advanced Diploma is transferable into the degree program. ABC is endorsed by the African Theological Training Services (ATTS).

HERQA has undertaken a wide range of activities, including:

• accreditation and re-accreditation of thousands of programs in private higher education institutions;and
• auditing more than 100 private and public higher education institutions, convening of consultative and training workshops with various stakeholders (public and private institution leaders, managers and academic staff and representatives from government organisations and professional organisations);
• development of draft benchmarks for a number of selected subjects; and
• the publication of procedures for external quality audits and accreditation processes.

Further, HERQA has been offering direct support through follow-up visits of the implementation of the quality audit report and conducting trainings for some selected academic staff and quality assurance officers at the HEIs and at the Agency’s.

Myungsung Christian Medical center (MCM) was established in 2004 by the Myungsung Presbyterian Church, Korea, with the joint objectives of providing quality health care to the people of Ethiopia and training Ethiopian medical professionals. Since its inception the hospital has been treating increasing numbers of patients suffering from a wide variety of communicable and non-communicable diseases, both medical and surgical. St. Paul's Hospital was founded during the time of Emperor Haile Selassie at a location now known as the regional bus terminal in the market place in Addis Ketema. It was established with the view of helping underserved populations who could not afford medical expenses. It was inaugurated in July 1947, equipped with 250 beds. The Hospital was first administered by the Ministry of Health, but hospital management was later transferred to a board of directors associated with what was then known as the Haile Selassie I Foundation. The Foundation itself was administered with finances obtained from the rent of hotel buildings and other local businesses. In 1968/69 a new hospital building was constructed in the Gulele area – its present site. It had the capacity of giving medical treatment to 400 in-patients and 300 out-patients.
