Duty Description

About UCU:

Uganda Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono. International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s, the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the higher education - not only of clergy but of other professionals as well. Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Tutor the allocated workload in a semester
  • The incumbent will prepare assessment tools and marking guides accordingly
  • Tutor and assess students in accordance with the University’s Curriculum
  • Must be present for all lecturers
  • The incumbent will attend to students’ academic needs and also offer advice.
  • Must be available for departmental, academic and administrative meetings
  • Should be willing to uphold the University’s instruments of Identity
  • Coordinate the Understanding World Views course unit

Required Qualifications

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a first or second upper class Bachelor's degree from Uganda Christian University.
  • Promise of skill and effectiveness in teaching and advising students.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Possess excellent computer skills
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and be flexible in an office, classroom, laboratory, and field environment.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Highly dependable and committed to continuous improvement, learning, and personal growth.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic work environment with parallel projects and deadlines.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Should be a committed and practicing Christian
