Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • The Psychologist will actively conntribute to the analysis of the mental health and psychosocial issues / needs, sources of distress, coping mechanisms, community-based dynamics and mechanisms, leaderships, representation of the beneficiaries and communities targeted by HI intervention
  • Take part in the identification of barriers to equal access to services, especially MHPSS ones
  • Actively contribute to the development of a referral system, especially regarding the MHPSS-related cases
  • Actively participate in the design and the facilitation of training of HI’s and other organizations’ team on MHPSS activities and approaches, including Psychological First Aid, identification and referral of complex cases, etc.
  • The Psychologist will also contribute to the identification and assessment of Person with Specific Needs and individuals at risk of being victims of violence
  • Provide one to one psychological interventions.
  • Provide training and contribute to capacity building activities. 
  • Ensure internal and external referral and follow up of these referrals of beneficiaries of the MHPSS intervention according to their needs
  • Participate to the conception and development of tailored and inclusive MHPSS Information Education Communication (IEC) material and to ensure its contextualization
  • Actively facilitate with the psychosocial workers to MHPSS awareness raising activities and support the activities of information dissemination run by the protection team
  • Support the protection team in the organization of community-based events and the collaboration with local partners to ensure these activities are in line with the MHPSS needs and issues of the beneficiaries
  • Technically supervise the creation and implementation of psychosocial support group sessions among the communities targeted by HI and facilitate some of them
  • Ensure regular technical review and propose relevant adaptations to ongoing activities and tools to the line manager in order to cope with the challenges faced in the field and the MHPSS needs and issues of the beneficiaries
  • Maintain complete documentation for each activity following the recommendations and template of the MHPSS supervisor
  • Show professional ethics, respect and promote Handicap International mandate at any time, respecting all HI protection policies

Others:

  • Participating to the weekly team meetings;
  • Ensure the strict application of the rules;
  • Report any incident in which s/he's involved/witnessed immediately;

Required Qualifications

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Handicap International (HI) Psychologist job opportunity must possess an MHPSS-related degree (psychologist, psychiatrist, sociologist, social worker, etc.) with experience
  • Professional experience in accompaniment of vulnerable people/refugees or in the humanitarian field, preferably in the field ofvulnerability and/or disability and/or outreach community-based approach
  • Previous experience in social cohesion and/or community mobilization and/or conflict management
  • Prior experience in MHPSS community-based approach is desired
  • Previous exposure and experience in protection is an added advantage
  • Good computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and internet
  • Strong sense of neutrality and confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Open and interested in disability and vulnerability issues
  • High diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and security awareness
  • Ability to work under high pressure and without constant supervision
  • Languages: Spoken and written English. Proficiency local languages is an asset (Arua)
