History and Creation
The University of Ngaoundere is created by Presidential Decree No. 93/028 of 19 January 1993. It comes from the transformation of Ngaoundere University Centre University.
Initially with two colleges and four faculties, this institution today welcomes students from all regions of Cameroon and the countries of the subregion, in particular Chad and the Central African Republic. Today, it has four faculties and four schools for an estimated population of 17,000 students.

he idea of establishing the University of the Mountains (UOM) was born of a profound reflection on the state of higher education in Cameroon initiated since 1990 by men and women from academia, World of Business and Professional categories gathered in the Association for Education and Development (AED).
It emerged from this reflection that despite the establishment of new universities, the state is no longer able to meet all the training needs of young Cameroonians. So, these young people throw thousands on the road to exile in search of academic host institutions.
We also appeared important to promote in our country a better university education rooted not only in our cultural realities, socio-economic and environmental, but also in the Central African subregion. To achieve this objective, the UOM heard:
