Having realized that there was a gap of drug distribution in the private sector in terms of one stop centre for all essential drugs; Mr. Aziz Damani, setup Gittoes Pharmaceuticals Ltd in 2004 with the aim of providing all major essential drugs in one centre. In 1992, when there was acute shortage of essential drugs in Uganda, Mr. Aziz Damani setup Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., the first private sector drug manufacturing factory in Uganda. Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries grew and became a leading local drug manufacturer in Uganda. In 1997 Industrial Promotion commonly known, as IPS, an AKFED company owned by Aga Khan Group and Kopran Ltd of India acquired the factory from Mr. Aziz Damani. Mr. Aziz Damani, still very interested in serving mankind through promoting Health, resumed pharmaceutical business with Gittoes Pharmaceuticals Limited(GPL).
