About University of Ouagadougou

The University of Ouagadougou, like universities in the sub-region has experienced difficult years. Since the advent of the overhaul in 2000, it works to regain its influence and its former glory. Thanks: to the dynamism of its faculty that is predominantly young, the results of the CAM are eloquent: the relative social peace and political stability prevailing in the country for several years; the spirit of dialogue and cooperation that prevails between all stakeholders (policy makers, teachers, students, administrative, technical, and support workers); the implementation of modern management techniques (computers and internet communication).

To this must be added the common will of policy makers and the academic community: to improve internal efficiency and external efficiency through concrete action in increasing the intake capacity, openness of professionalized sectors and a better partnership between the university and the world of production and business; now to open this temple of knowledge to its environment, the Burkinabe society; to further orient university research towards solving the problems of development and well-being of people in all areas;intensify the development of new information and communications technology (Internet, computing, distance learning...). The University of Ouagadougou which has always been a successful example of mixing of peoples and strong support from the entire university community, will continue to serve as a center of excellence with the conviction to serve Burkina Faso and the entire sub-region , combining basic education and vocational training.

Organizational Chart

The legislative bodies are: the Board of Directors expanded; the Council of Training and University life involving the participation of civil society; the Scientific Council extended to non-national research structures.

1- Board of the University of Ouagadougou

The Board of Directors ensures the high responsibility of the university administration. Must be referred all matters that may influence the general course of the university. It deliberates on key issues affecting the operation and management of the institution, including: review and approve the budget, administrative and management accounts and loan issue conditions; it takes or leases any property real and personal; It authorizes the president of the university to borrow money; he does all delegations, all transfers of receivables, it shall offer all subrogation, with or without security; it transfers or disposes of all annuities or values. It acquires all buildings and property rights; he agrees all liens, pledges, mortgages or other guarantees; it allows the recruitment of contract agents own the establishment, in accordance with the regulations. The Board meets at least twice a year in ordinary session convened by its Chairman with a mandate (3) renewable years and in extraordinary session convened by its chairman or at the request of at least one third of its voting members and whenever the university's interest requires.

In case of irregularities, mismanagement or to the Board attributable deficiency, it may be dissolved by decree on proposal of the Minister of Higher Education. With this decree appointing the installation of the Board (the supreme authority), the University of Ouagadougou and completes the implementation process of its statutory structures; which is expected to achieve one of the objectives of the overhaul, namely: strengthening the institutional capacity for a much more transparent and democratic management. The establishment of the Board comes after those of the Council of Training and University life (CFVU) in 2000 and the Scientific Council.

2- The board of education and university life (CFVU)

The Training Council and university life (CFVU) is the body that deliberates on defining the general orientation of the university: it is seized all important matters concerning the university of life. it offers to the competent authorities the establishment of research institutions; prepares draft to the University Administration attention approve the internal rules of the institutions he advises on all it is submitted by the Board of Directors, the minister responsible for higher education or university president. The Training Council and university life can establish its own permanent bodies with specific duties and ad hoc committees to make proposals on issues of interest to the university of life. It is chaired by the President. It meets at least once a quarter in ordinary session convened by its chairman. The president is also required to convene at the written request of one third of its members with voting rights.

3. The Scientific Council

This body, placed in the center of academic activities, teaching at the University of Ouagadougou is a structure that proposes to the Board of training and of university life (CFVU) research policy, scientific documentation and the distribution means research. The members of the Scientific Council can be found at: the initial training programs and continuing qualification to give jobs to faculty or contract researchers; research programs and contracts proposed by the components of the university community; requests for authorization to issue national diplomas; building projects or modification of settlement degrees. The Scientific Council has 22 members including the president of the University of Ouagadougou, who is the chairman, the three vice-presidents of the University of Ouagadougou, directors of educational institutions (Training and Research Unit, Faculty ), the National Centre of the representative of the Scientific and Technological Research (CNRST), the representative of a non Burkinabe research organization associated with the activities of the University of Ouagadougou (International Research and Development Centre on Livestock sub area -humide) and a rank of A teacher per school.

The establishment of the Scientific Council, which meets the spirit of Decree No. 2000559§PRES§MESSRS / MF of 12 December 2000 on the statute of the University of Ouagadougou, is a highly important act for the life of the temple of knowledge . These statutes are the legal and academic references for the proper functioning of the university. They call therefore everyone involved in the university community so that it contributes to the achievement of assigned tasks, goals being the development and vitality of the joint institution. In this context, the three decision-making bodies such as the Board of Directors, the Council of training and academic life and the Scientific Council responsible for ensuring the demonstration of good governance, an essential element of stability and the quality of education at the University of Ouagadougou. The Scientific Council is a body in which all members have one vote while the AC and CFVU include voting members and members in an advisory capacity.

In conclusion, the implementation of these supreme and democratic bodies of the university fully responds to the wish expressed by the Minister of Secondary and Higher Education and Scientific Research in the first few hours of overhaul process, saying that the strength of everyone potentiates the contract from the other, so that the future of our youth has the right to dream without complex.

Educational institutions
