About THE MAURITIUS CANE INDUSTRY AUTHORITY
With the promulgation of the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority Act on 19 March 2012, the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority (MCIA) was created as a body corporate and became operational. It took over the responsibilities and functions of the following six ex-Providing Service Institutions (SPIs):
(1) Ex-Cane Planters and Millers Arbitration and Control Board
(2) Ex-Farmers Service Corporation
(3) Ex-Mauritius Sugar Authority
(4) Ex-Mauritius Sugar Industry Research Institute
(5) Ex-Mauritius Sugar Terminal Corporation
(6) Ex-Sugar Planters Mechanical Pool Corporation
The Mauritius Cane Industry Authority Act (No. 40 of 2011) provided for the merging of the six cess-providing institutions and their respective Acts have been repealed as from 19 March 2012 by virtue of Section 64 of the MCIA Act 2011.
