The creation of Radio Niger was born from two concerns: On 23 June 1956, the Framework promulgated by the French Republic for its colonies law after its colonial debacle: a military defeat in Indochina (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) the independence of Morocco, Tunisia, the liberation war in Algeria, the turmoil and discontent in Francophone Africa etc., dedicates internal autonomy within fourteen (14) colonies French AOF, AEF and Madagascar.

Previously, "Created for the needs of the Second World War, Radio Dakar disposal of poorly performing infrastructure and some coherent status. However, from 1946, measures were being initiated for the information radio. This "first" in broadcasting pushed the authorities to create in 1952 in St. Louis, then capital of the territory of Senegal and Mauritania, an information service and a broadcasting center, ... ".

The establishment of the Broadcasting Corporation of France Overseas (SORAFOM), follows a concern of Parliamentarians and government authorities in Paris, both in France and in the Colonies, the importance of information would have a certain sharpness.
