WHO ARE WE

The Institut Pasteur in Dakar (IPD) is a Senegalese Law Foundation, state-approved, non-profit and is allowed to contribute to public health, especially in Africa and especially in Senegal, conducting activities recheche, education, training, medical examinations, epidemiological and biological and production of yellow fever vaccine, as provided by the statutes signed between the Government of the Republic of Senegal and the Pasteur Institute September 29, 2009.

 

MISSIONS

The Dakar Pasteur Institute is an important Biomedical Research Centre whose orientation activities is set for a useful application for the protection of public health:

- Research activities meet national public health priorities and international, are conducted in collaboration with other national and international scientific teams, especially within the International Network of Pasteur Institutes. The main programs at RPI concern viral diseases (arboviruses and haemorrhagic fever viruses, influenza viruses, polioviruses and other enteroviruses, emerging viruses), malaria, Enteric Pathogens and monitoring of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

- Public health activities are conducted at the request of the authorities of Senegal, of the Pasteur Institute or the World Health Organization (WHO). The different IPD units are involved in epidemiological surveillance as WHO or national reference centers. Expert missions or intervention can be made at the request of the Ministry of Health and Prevention. IPD capabilities also extend to the level of the entire sub-region, in collaboration with WHO.

- Service activities are conducted by a medical laboratory, a laboratory of food safety and environmental hygiene (certified Cofrac), an international center for vaccination and a rabies treatment center.

- Training activities are an essential mission. They concern firstly the IPD own personal, administrative, technical, scientific and technical, and secondly, the teaching and supervision of external trainees in IPD in particular through partnerships with the University Cheikh Anta Diop, Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis or the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

- Production of fever vaccine Yellow is a historical specificity of the IPD. It is a resource available for Senegal and for the entire African continent, through WHO and UNICEF programs.
