About Banque Internationale du Bénin (BIBE)

The International Bank of Benin is a private company founded by leading Nigerian banks with the participation of Benin-Nigerian economic operators. These include the UNION BANK OF NIGERIA PLC, UNITY BANK and THE FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA PLC. BIBE is one of the four pioneer banks of the Beninese banking system rebuilt between 1989 and early 1990 on the ruins of the old system was a state monopoly. The peculiarity of the BIBE lies in the originality of its design and its creation that led the Benin-Nigerian private investors to put together their financial, human and technical resources to create a strong institution and freely accessible to the community of men Business in the West African sub-region. This type of bilateral cooperation (South-South), the first within ECOWAS and what is more, between two countries in different colonial past, is a rare example of courage and vision on the part of the founders of BIBE. As one of the first banks operating in Benin today, the development of BIBE is an eloquent proof of this vision at the same time it is indicative of the broad business opportunities remained unexplored for cross-border cooperation between private sectors within ECOWAS. In this perspective, BIBE is a concrete illustration of the ideals of ECOWAS whose fundamental objective is the integration of economic and financial structures within the geopolitical space it covers. The activities of its branch network which are always of the International Bank of Benin (BIBE) a local bank are extended more than ever on the outside by a large first-class network of correspondents covering four continents.
