Emeritus Training Academy (“Emeritus”) was conceptualized as a solution to the need for revolutionizing the teaching of Mathematics and Science in South Africa. Our formation was preceded by an engagement with Singapore Education policy influencers. Singapore was specifically chosen because of its rapid strides in Mathematics education. The paradigm shift catapulted Singaporean Mathematics literacy to the top of the pile in a relatively short period. The introduction of animations, quizzes, manipulatives, and games were identified as catalysts towards a mindset change. Further research took us to India and the Cambridge University. Our research led to us developing the Maths Lab concept, which would be supported by content that integrated the CPA (“concrete, pictorial and abstract”) methodology into the CAPS aligned content. Manipulatives, geo sketches, quizzes, and games were introduced to the program. Learners and educators found this quite fascinating.
