INVESTING IN SOUTH SUDAN

Potential investors into South Sudan can obtain recommendation letters from the SSCCIA to facilitate them to obtain visas from the nearest South Sudan Embassy, from where they are located.

To obtain this, they must provide information to the SSCCIA on the following areas:

•Copy of the membership certificate from their private sector umbrella bodies in the country where they are running businesses

•Certificate of incorporation in the country

•Full address of the business in the country where it is registered

•Names of the representatives of the company visiting South Sudan

•Passport details of the delegated company’s representatives

•Agriculture and agri-business.

•Physical infrastructure.

•Social infrastructure.

•Mining, quarrying, energy and electricity, petroleum and gas industries (the mining bill has been passed by parliament in late 2012).

•Research on mapping of natural resources for economic use

•Warehousing and storage facilities e.g: petroleum products storage facilities, cold rooms etc

•Forestry products and related industries like beekeeping

•Medium to heavy manufacturing industries

•Transport, telecommunications, print and electronic media, and information communication technology (ICT).

•Financial institutions like Commercial banks, leasing finance, insurance companies, property management and micro finance financial institutions

•Pharmaceuticals, chemicals, medical and surgical industries.

•Tourism and hotel industry development.

 

2. Benefits to Foreign Investors:

•Duty Exemptions - Agricultural imports, tools, equipment, machinery and tractors, pharmaceutical, animal feeds, seeds for boosting food and cash crop production shall be exempted.

•Tax Incentives - Incentives include:

oCapital allowances ranging from 20 percent to 100 percent;

oDeductible annual allowances ranging from 20 percent to 40 percent; and

oother depreciation allowances ranging from 8 percent to 20 percent.

•Special incentives may be granted by the Board of Investment Authority, in strategic or transformational sectors.

•These special incentives are only available on special applications by investors in areas designated as strategic or transformational
