THE BANQUE COMMERCIALE DU BURUNDI "BANCOBU" was incorporated under the laws in force in Burundi on June 13, 1960. Before that date, its banking activities were carried out respectively by the Banque Belge du Congo and the Société Congolaise de Banque (SOCOBANQUE). BANCOBU was 49% owned by ING Belgium (formerly BANQUE BRUXELLES LAMBERT: BBL) until 2004, when these shares were bought back by Burundian shareholders.
