Hurghada International Airport is the major international airport serving the city of Hurghada on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, located about 5 km southwest of the city center (El Dahar area). The airport opened for civilian flights in the late 1970s (first civilian operations around 1977) and has grown with Hurghada’s emergence as a leading tourist destination. Today it is the second busiest airport in Egypt. It has two terminals: Terminal 1 handles full-service international flights (with jet-bridges, 72 check-in desks, duty-free shops, VIP/business lounges, free Wi-Fi, cafés, restaurants), while Terminal 2 handles charter and low-cost carriers with additional gates and bus-boarding. Passenger amenities include duty-free shops, ATMs/banks, currency exchange, restaurants and cafés, car rental, parking for ~1,500 vehicles (short- and long-term), taxi and bus services to city centre, and rental car offices. Hurghada International Airport serves both domestic and international flights, with frequent routes to Europe, Middle East and Africa — it is a vital gateway for tourists visiting the Red Sea resorts, diving spots and resorts around Hurghada. With modern facilities and a high volume of seasonal traffic, it plays a central role in the tourism infrastructure of Egypt’s Red Sea coast. (ICAO:HEGN)
