Sharq El Owainat Airport is an airport located in the Western Desert region of Egypt, serving Sharq El Owainat in the New Valley Governorate. The airport was constructed in 2003 in a rapid three-month build to support agricultural developments and to facilitate transport of goods and investors to the remote region. The main runway is 3,500 m asphalt (01/19), and the apron can serve up to 8 aircraft. The airport’s terminal building is simple, with capacity to handle ~100 passengers per hour. The airport functions as a small regional airport primarily built to support agriculture, export of produce, and movement of workers / investors rather than heavy commercial passenger traffic. Sharq El Owainat Airport remains an important logistic and regional-development infrastructure in southwestern desert Egypt, offering access to remote agricultural zones. (ICAO:HEOW)
