What is a Pediatrician? Pediatricians are medical doctors who specialize in the care of children. After medical school, pediatricians spend 3 more years in training taking care of very sick children to prepare for a career in practice. We must pass a test to become board certified in pediatrics. All of our physicians are board certified pediatricians. They must then maintain ongoing pediatric education and testing to maintain their certified status. With this solid foundation of training, a typical pediatrician will see about 20-30 patients a day, giving them experience over time to deal with virtually any pediatric problem. Pediatricians are trained and experienced in the physical, mental, emotional, and social development of children and youth. They recognize that children are not "little adults." Their organ systems function differently and respond differently to disease and medications.
