Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc (DSR) is Nigeria’s leading integrated sugar manufacturer, part of the Dangote Group conglomerate. Established in 2000 and headquartered at Apapa Wharf Complex, Lagos, the company refines, packages, and distributes Vitamin A-fortified and non-fortified granulated white sugar for household and industrial consumption. DSR’s Apapa refinery, one of the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa, has an installed refining capacity of 1.44 million metric tonnes per annum.
Strategic Vision & Initiatives
Under the “Sugar for Nigeria” initiative, Dangote Sugar aims to achieve national self-sufficiency by producing up to 1.5 million tonnes of refined sugar annually from locally grown sugarcane. The company’s backward integration projects (BIPs) include large-scale cane cultivation and processing operations in Numan (Adamawa State), Nasarawa, and Taraba. These projects align with the Federal Government’s National Sugar Development Master Plan to boost local production, create jobs, and reduce import dependency.
