National professional body for builders with Abuja secretariat; established in 1969 with statutory backing for the building profession. The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) is the professional body for builders in Nigeria and traces its roots to the Institute of Building Nigeria Centre which was inaugurated in Lagos on March 31, 1967; autonomy was granted in 1969 and the Nigerian Institute of Building was established, while the profession later received statutory backing through the Builders’ Registration Act (Decree 45 of 1989, now B.13 LFN 2004), with the national secretariat operating from Kaba District along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja to coordinate membership, examinations, continuous professional development and national advocacy that improve construction quality and safety across all states.
