CART is a rural sustainability hub in Eastern Cape teaching appropriate technologies and self-reliant living-skills for poorer communities. Founded in 1994 in Sicambeni Village, CART is a sustainable-technology and life-skills centre. It teaches appropriate rural technologies such as water purification, compost sanitation, solar power, garden beds, and HIV nutrition support. Unique for serving as a replicable model in one of South Africa’s poorest districts, empowering rural communities through hands-on training and local infrastructure.
