South Sudan Institute (SSI) is dedicated to creating sustainable self-sufficiency for returning refugees in communities throughout South Sudan beginning with a replicable model program in Duk Payuel. Background A thriving healthcare clinic, primary school and library have already been established in the village, defining it as a center for peace and a prime location for further development. In 2007, Lost Boys leader John Dau, now a dual citizen of the US and Sudan, established the John Dau Foundation and built a health care clinic in Duk Payuel. Since then, clinic staff has provided life saving medical care to over 33,000 patients, trained more than 100 Sudanese and conducted vaccination programs for neighboring villages. In that same year, John spoke at Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia.
