About Prince Edward School Zimbabwe
Prince Edward School Zimbabwe – A Legacy of Academic Excellence Since 1898
The storied journey of Prince Edward School began on 13 June 1898, marking a significant chapter in Zimbabwe's educational heritage. Founded through the vision and determination of a group of forward-thinking pioneers in Salisbury (now Harare), the school’s origin was both humble and ambitious. Originally named the Salisbury Public Undenominational School, its establishment was guided by a committee that envisioned a lasting institution of learning and leadership.
On that historic day, the committee passed a resolution to commission local architects to design and construct a suitable school building. This early facility was intended to accommodate 75 pupils and include essential amenities such as a residence for the headmaster and administrative offices—laying the foundation for what would become one of Zimbabwe’s most prestigious schools.
Over the decades, Prince Edward School has grown from its modest beginnings into a renowned educational institution, often referred to as a “mighty oak” that sprouted from the original “acorn” planted in 1898. Today, it stands as a beacon of academic achievement, tradition, and excellence in Zimbabwe and beyond.
