Founded in 1948 as the African Girls High School, it is within walking distance from its brother school Alliance High School.

Founded in 1948 by the Alliance of Protestant Missions, Alliance Girls' High School was the first institution of higher secondary education for African girls in Kenya, and served in parallel with Kenya High School which at that time only admitted European girls. Before Kenyan independence it was called African Girls High School. Jamhuri High School, formerly known as Government Indian School and later The Duke of Gloucester School, is one of the oldest schools in Kenya. It was founded as a Railway Educational Centre in 1906. Kagumo High School is a boy's national secondary school located between Kirichu and Kiganjo townships at Kagumo near Karatina on the Nyeri-Nanyuki road in Kenya.

It was one of the first schools in Kenya to allow native black Africans to sit for university level entrance exams, doing so in 1946. It is one of the best high schools in Kenya, with prominent old boys in Kenya and globally. It has several notable alumni including lawyers, doctors and politicians such as the constitutional lawyer Gibson Kamau Kuria .

In academics, sports and creative arts this school has a long-standing rivalry with Nyeri High School, with meetings between the two schools, particularly in rugby, and basketball the most intense.

Kapropita girl’s high school is one of the oldest schools in Baringo County. It was started   as an intermediate school by the African Inland Mission on 16th March 1957.The official opening ceremony was presided over by Miss Yenish, the Director of the African women education in Kenya then. His Excellency the Second President of the republic of Kenya Daniel T. The Kenya High School had its beginnings in 1910 when a co-educational school called the Nairobi European School began in buildings designed for police Barracks. In 1931 the boys were separated from the girls. In 1935, the school was renamed The European Girls Secondary School and had its first Headmistress, Miss Kerby appointed. The buildings consisted partly of temporary wooden huts located on the compound of the present Nairobi Primary school, with whom the secondary school shared the present buildings. Staff housing was scattered in the vicinity of Protectorate Hill. In 1939, the school was renamed The Kenya High School.

Lenana School is a secondary school in Nairobi, Kenya. It was formed in 1949 by colonial governor Philip Euen Mitchell, known then as the Duke of York School, named after a British World War II 1939 King George V-class battleship. The bell from HMS Duke of York is mounted on a bell-shed bythe front school parade ground between the school chapel and the hall. The first students were briefly housed at the then-British colonial governor's house, which is the current State House as they waited for the school's completion. The founding principal was R. H. James.

 

The school was renamed Lenana School in 1969 after the central person in the conflict between British imperialists and the Maasai, the latter's spiritual leader Laibon Lenana. The first Kenyan principal of the school was James Kamunge. The referral to old students of the school changed from the phrase Old Yorkist to Laibons, the latter being a title given to religious figures of the Maasai.

Matuga girls high school was started in 1967 and is situated on a 70 acre plot in Waa Location, Matuga Division of Kwale County.

The present school site was first an Agricultural Training Centre and later a detention camp which was later on converted into an Intermediate school.  The Intermediate school was converted to a Harambee secondary school for girls in 1967 and admitted the first form ones under Mr. Maclean Mbui  as Head teacher. 

In 1970 the first form four students sat for their ‘0’ level examination and in the same year ‘A’ level was introduced. In 1973 the school became a double stream. In 1988 it became a triple stream at ‘0’ level and double stream at ‘A’ level. In 2013 it became a National school with four streams.       It is a four streamed full girls boarding school with an enrolment of 764 (Seven hundred sixty four) students.

Nakuru High School is one of Kenya's National Schools located in Nakuru Town, off Nakuru-Bahati Road. It borders Nakuru State House to the West. The school was founded in 1927 as Francis Scott High School but later renamed to Nakuru High School after Kenya attained independence in 1963. The first stone was laid by the then colonial governor Edward William Macleay Grigg. It has roughly 200 acres of land facing Menengai Crater. Initially the co-educational institution was reserved for children of the whites who lived in the outlying farming areas and British administrators. All teachers, masters (as they were called at the time) were also white. First formed as a boarding school, it still allowed day pupils on condition that they lived around the school.

Starehe Boys' Centre and School - popularly known as Starehe -is a partial-board, boys-only school in Nairobi, Kenya. The school was founded in 1959. It started as a rescue centre in Nairobi. Starehe and Brookhouse School are the only African schools south of the Sahara and north of the Limpopo distinguished as Round Square members.

Starehe Boys' Centre and School educates at least 70% of its students free, and the rest at a reduced rate. This stems from its founding charter as a charitable school. School fees are paid on a means-tested basis, with substantial subsidies paid by the school, so that students from all walks of life are able to have a public school education that would otherwise be beyond their means.

The entrance process uses results from the national KCPE exams and prefers to award school places to those who show academic potential.
