The Banda School is situated on Magadi Road opposite the Nairobi National Park, in the tranquil surburb of Karen.

Our international school traces its origins from Kaptagat, near Eldoret, where Mr. and Mrs. Chitty ran Kaptagat Preparatory School with 170 children from 1956. 

In 1966, the Dutch Government offered to purchase the school’s property and others around it to build a farmer’s training center. After searching for a suitable place to relocate the school, the Chittys settled on the current location, which was formerly occupied by the British Army in 1942 and later, The Banda Hotel.

The Banda School officially opened its doors to twenty-four children, eight teaching staff and a Headmaster in September 1966. Today, it is among the best international schools in Kenya and one of the largest IAPS schools in the world outside the United Kingdom.

Braeburn Schools is a group of 16 co-educational international schools spread over 9 campuses providing world class teaching of the British National Curriculum and GCE A-Levels to over 3,600 pupils. The origins of Hillcrest International Schools started with Hillcrest Preparatory School. It was established in 1965, by educationalist Dorothy Noad and long-serving government employee Frank Thompson.

Hillcrest Preparatory secured its international school status in 1972, when it became a member of IAPS. Consequently joining a group of British Curriculum schools across the world. Concurrently, the idea was advanced for Hillcrest to expand its educational offering to include a Secondary School.

Hillcrest Secondary School was established in 1975, being built in the current school’s location. It started with an enrollment of 54 students and three classrooms. At the time, it was among a few schools offering students Cambridge Overseas ‘O’ and ‘A’ level examination and certification.
