The Alliance Française is a language and cultural relations organization. It was created in 1883 in Paris by renowned humanists, including Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne, with the principal objective of promoting and teaching the French language around the world.

Since then, it has developed into a global network of the Alliance Française institutions operating in 135 countries around the world with other 1 000 Alliance Française, all aiming of fostering friendship between peoples, through the promotion of the French language and cultural diversity.

The Alliance Française of Dar Es Salaam (AFDAR) is a registered Tanzanian non-profit organization run by a Board of Directors comprised of professionals, cultural figures and operating with the support of the French Embassy. It was founded in 1961 and is located in Upanga.

Furthermore, it aims at improving the knowledge of the French language and encouraging interaction among the French, Francophone and Tanzanian peoples through educational and artistic programming. The Alliance Franco Tanzanienne of Arusha was created in 2000 and officially labelled in 2001. To this day, we have trained more than 2,000 students in Arusha into speaking French. In 2010, AFT has already trained 400 students and has organized more than 20 cultural events. We organize examinations twice a year in June and December, for DELF & DALF certificates delivered by the French Ministry of Education.

Fun-Lugha is a one woman business operated by a native Swahili teacher that provides private Swahili lessons in person throughout Dar es salaam or online via Skype for students outside Dar. The lesson location for the first meeting is always in a public place eg. A cafe but after that the student can choose whichever location that suits them best. I also provide translation and proofreading services at a very fair rate. I speak fluent English and a fair amount of French and Korean.

Goethe-Institut offers German language classes for all levels. You can choose from a longer (intensive courses) or a quicker (super intensive courses) study period in our standard courses. Courses with special themes are also offered periodically for the exam preparation and young learner’s courses. Courses can be customized by request for companies, smaller groups or individuals. If you cannot attend a regular classroom course at an institute, distance learning is a good alternative.
