The hospital's missions are to ensure and offer quality medico-surgical care to the entire population by buying and selling medico-surgical products and materials, by doing paraclinical examinations and other explorations of all kinds without forgetting to other legal activities allowing it to carry out its mission.
It is located in the Maîrie of Bujumbura in MUKAZA Commune. It was inaugurated in 1949 and at that time served the entire indigenous population of Ruanda, Urundi and eastern Belgian Congo. Its capacity has grown and today it reaches more than 600 beds; which makes it the largest hospital in the country.
It was a public hospital until 1992, when it became a Personalized State Administration (APE) with management autonomy entrusted to a team of directors acting under the supervision of the Board of Directors.

The Kamenge Military Hospital is an autonomous institution under the supervision of the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, with a capacity of at least 250 beds, and functions as a diagnostic and treatment center for both the civilian population and Military.
The Kamenge Military Hospital opened its doors on February 6, 1984. Since its opening, the activities of the various departments have grown considerably.
In order to make it more operational, HMK was set up in 1991 as a Personalized Administration with legal personality, budgetary and managerial autonomy as well as assets.
To make it more efficient, the Military Hospital of Kamenge, which previously was placed under the authority of a Director, was reorganized and placed under the authority of a Director General on June 5, 2001.

Van Norman Clinic
The Van Norman Clinic (VNC) established in 2012 as a health care outreach for Hope Africa University, is marking eight years of service. The Clinic continues to grow in its service to the local Bujumbura community. Already in 2020, it has served over 25,000 individual patients in general medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, internal medicine, dentistry, and surgery. Paramedical services are available in family planning, vaccinations, pharmacy, radiology, and community medicine. The average monthly patient population is close to 5,500 and increasing. Over the last two years, the clinic has seen an increase in the number of children under 10 it is serving and is giving more attention to its pediatric services.
