Action For Development is an Ethiopian Residents charity that evolved from the FAO-operated freedom From Hunger Campaign (FFHC/AD) which had been implementing various development & rehabilitation programs in the drought prone areas of Southern Ethiopia, since the mid-eigthies. The FFHC/AD programme was operationalized through a project known as NGO programme of support for local agricultural rehabilitation initiatives.The project mainly focused on the rehabilitation of drought affected farmers in the drought prone areas of Southern Ethiopia.

It was found by a philanthropist lady named W/zo Alemnesh Mogessie and her family members in 1994. ACSO was established as a response to the humanitarian crisis that occurred following the downfall of the Derg regime with the aim of addressing the plights of abandoned and neglected children.
