Someone said passion is not what gives you bliss or makes you happy 24/7, but what you’re willing to suffer for — what you genuinely believe to be worth the sacrifice.

This is just a disclaimer to let you know that it is not necessarily and easy ride!

At about the age of 9 I realized I loved planting or growing things. We didn't have a garden or a shamba as is commonly known in East Africa but that didn't deter me from my passion. I would collect tins/cans or any container and plant flowers. I fondly remember getting those bulbs (before the energy saver bulbs with twisted designs came) and planting indoor water plants in them. My dear Mum joked that when I grow up, I would not have chairs in my house...she could only envisage plants all over!

 

I pursued Accountancy to its professional level got both ACCA and CPA-U but didn't stop gardening. After completing my MBA I felt more passionate about my passion....Gardening.

 

I have grown to love accountancy and that's the reason for The Accountancy and Business Clinic Facebook page.

 

However I have remained passionate about gardening hence Maua and More .

 

Maua is Swahili name for flowers but we offer flower pots, flower pot stands and other garden accessories hence the flowers and more.

 

To bring my two worlds together, I chose to be The Accounting Gardener.

 

On 1st August 2014, we opened the Maua and More Facebook page

 

On our first anniversary, August 2015, we moved from within the walls at home to put up Maua and More roadside display on our home perimeter wall.

 

On the 2nd April 2016, the hobby turned small business or startup, Maua and More, was excited to have been invited to participate at the inaugural gardeners show organized by The Backyard Gardeners Uganda . It was a lovely experience, great interaction and inspiration to take on more challenges.

 

On 1st August 2016 we opened our 1st outlet in Kensington Shopping Boulevard, Kyanja.

 

On 1st December 2017 we open an outlet closer to town, at Plot 50 Bukoto Street, Kamwokya.

 

In May 2018, we were invited by the Garden City Management to organize a weekly Saturday market at they parking lot opposite Brood.

 

In September 2018 we started the renovation of the space that we have now occupied effective 17th September 2018.

 

We closed the Bukoto street outlet on 30th September 2018 and merged it with our Garden City Shopping Mall outlet. This outlet is on the right hand middle parking exit.

 

In May 2019, we needed to expand in order to accommodate more plants. This lead to our opening Maua and More outdoor section and held our 1st Barbecue in the Garden event on 8th June 2019 to celebrate the expansion.

 

In November 2019 we extended our outdoor section further and closed our Kensington outlet in order to consolidate our offering under one roof. We held our 2nd Edition of the Barbecue in The Garden to celebrate this milestone. On the run up to the event we had the Unique Plants Competition #MauaUPC2019 on our Facebook page. The winners were awarded at the Barbecue.
