About NEEDY SUPPORT CENTRE
OUR STORY
Over the last thirty years, the northern region of Uganda experienced periods of unrest and civil war. During times of conflict, people from the north migrated to the capital city, Kampala, to escape the violence and find a better life. Many of these people came to settle in Nakawa Division with little money or job skills. Although there is now peace in Uganda, people have continued to settle in Nakawa, coming from Uganda's rural areas, particularly the northern region. The community has been characterised as disadvantaged by high rates of poverty and HIV/AIDS.
It was from this community that Needy Support Centre was created. Seven passionate community members began meeting under a tree to discuss the problems their community faced. They formed Needy Support Centre in 2004 as a community based organisation that works to empower needy people with education, economic and social support.
