The ‘GREGORY UNIVERSITY’ is named after Pope St. Gregory I (540 – 604 AD) better known as Gregory the Great was Pope from 3 September 590 until his death. He was a renowned and distinguished educationist and a pious and learned man of God who had the single opportunity of being made the Doctor of the Catholic Church. Pope St. Gregory I worked hard to alleviate the suffering of the people. He employed writings and other actions, including education of his people, to protect them against the lawlessness of civil power.It is the life, hard work, dedication, commitment, and achievements of Pope St. Gregory I that have inspired the Proprietor to name the university after him. The goal is for Gregory University to epitomise the accomplishments of Pope St. Gregory I and the work of Gregory Iyke Foundation in Nigeria as well as to inculcate in every graduate of the university the zeal, enthusiasm and commitment exhibited by Pope St. Gregory I.
