About Pioneer Foods

There are probably not many households in South Africa without at least one of Pioneer Foods’ products in their kitchen. Our cereals, dried fruit products, baking ingredients, rusks, juices, eggs, and condiments are all familiar names: think Bokomo Maltabella, Nulaid eggs, Ceres and Liqui-fruit juice, Heinz ketchup, Safari dried fruits and Moir’s cake mix, as just a few examples.

 Pioneer Foods is one of the largest producers and distributors in South Africa of a range of food, beverages and related products, for human consumption. We operate across the country, providing the nation with affordable foods of a consistently high safety and nutritional quality, supported by a large, innovative and stable workforce. 

 

The Group has three main divisions:

 • Essential Foods manufactures wheat and maize products, trades in rice, beans, lentils and dried vegetables and has large bakery operations.

 • Groceries (previously Bokomo Foods and The Ceres Beverages Company) produces cereals, rusks, biscuits, cake mixes, baking aids, instant mash potato, dried fruit products, nuts, spreads, dehydrated vegetables, processed salads, fruit juices, carbonated soft drinks and fruit concentrate mixture.

 • Pioneer Foods International joint ventures is our substantial stake in Heinz Foods SA, which produces tomato sauces and ketchup, frozen foods, seafood tinned products, tinned food, instant meals and noodles. Bowman Ingredients South Africa is a joint venture to supply food ingredients to South Africa’s large food producers.
