Crude palm oil (CPO) is the most widely consumed vegetable oil in the world and by far the most widely consumed vegetable oil in Liberia. Small-scale artisanal manufacturers in Liberia also use CPO to produce laundry soaps. Although families across the country depend on palm oil as the family’s staple cooking oil and a key source of calories, the supply, quality and price of CPO are erratic, making it difficult for families and soap manufacturers to maintain a steady supply.
