Service Information

Optimum learning is the practice of educating students with special educational needs in a way that addresses their individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings. These interventions are designed to help individuals with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and in their community, which may not be available if the student were only given access to a typical classroom education.

The program is available to both primary and secondary with a nature and level of the educational response based on the child’s assessed level of ability. Students who have been assessed as having special educational needs have access to a range of special support services to optimize their learning ability.

The Department also achieves as much integration in the mainstream as possible, where placement in an integrated setting is considered to be the appropriate response.

• Assist students to choose opportunities for success and development of self-advocacy.
• Commit to continued enrichment of skills and knowledge by qualified and willing personnel.
• Adapt and expand inclusionary opportunities as appropriate.
