NAVIGATION

The Captaincy of the Port ensures continuous traffic regulation, rule the order of entry and exit of ships and navigation of all movements in the port. It has for this purpose performance tools navigation aids including a radar service, lighthouses, beacons, buoys and approaches an AIS system which allows the monitoring of inland waterways and traffic management maritime. It also has a steering towing service and equipped with door-throwing stars to pilot boats and four powerful tugs which Agbodrafo 5,000 Horses fumes. A COMPETITIVE HANDLING

The handling is partly provided by private operators. The average handling rate is 25 movements per hour, placing the Lomé Port among the most efficient ports in the West African sub region.  Thus, the container handling is ensured by   LOME TERMINALS  and society MANUPORT. The handling Conventional is the responsibility of  LOME MULTIPURPOSE TERMINALS  and MANUPORT. The Port Authority is responsible for the further handling of oil, wheat and clinker.

FRONTIER RESOURCES

The Lomé Port has an area of over 900 hectares with two areas equipped for the installation of industries in the context of the Togolese Free Zone and operate in different industries: plastics, pharmaceutical, food, metal, the wood industry, clothing, synthetic hair, cosmetics, jewelery. These companies benefit from the proximity of port infrastructure and the quality of services for the transport of finished or semi-finished. The Port Lomé, by the nature of its direct and indirect activities, is the vector of the Togolese economy. The main port operations, maritime and port extra concern:

Port activities

- Material Handlers: 4 handling companies; 

- Freight: more than 300 companies; 

- Ship Agents: dozens of listed companies; 

- Carriers / Operators: from 110,000 to 120,000 trucks / year.

Industrial activities

- Dozens of companies (SMEs and SMIs) installed in the port area as part of the EPZ export; 

- Two zones were delineated in the port area for the establishment of these companies.

Informal activities

- More than 2,000 informal activities identified: bars, restaurants, telephone booths, sales of spare parts, sale of various products employ a few thousand people; 

- The Park Used Vehicle (PVO) is a place of excellence for business development Informal Port of Lomé.

GUIDED TOURS OF THE PORT

The port is a place of great very interesting business to discover and explore. Guided tours of the port are then organized for schools, higher education institutes, universities and organizations wanting to tap away the reality of port activity and to understand the role of this link transport in the economy and the subregion. 

The organization of a tour is made on application to The Director General of the Autonomous Port of Lomé specifying the number of people, the desired date and a contact. Sixty people (60) maximum allowed for a guided tour. The list of persons must also be attached to the application.

The days are allowed for visits on Wednesdays and Fridays. However, the Communication Service reserves the right to reschedule the tour depending on availability of staff or schedule other visits.

OPTIMAL SAFETY

One of the major advantages of the Port of Lomé is not only the speed of the tape, but the security situation there. Indeed, an important feature was implemented. This device comprises:

- The creation of a special security force called "The Bees" which controls access to the port facility and ensures patrol all areas of the port activities; 

- access control at the Port of thumbnails for vehicles and magnetic cards for individuals; 

- installation of surveillance cameras; 

- installing a GANTRY HCV scanner for scanning containers.

This safety device meets the requirements of the International Code for the Security of Ships and of Port Facilities (ISPS Code). It addresses the security concerns of the Togolese authorities in inspection and import of contraband, arms trafficking and drugs.
