Policy & Advocacy
Policy Advocacy for manufactures and members.
Contributing to the formulation of policies that enhance sustainable development and create a conducive environment for the business community to flourish is at the core of UMA's policy advocacy work. Through continuous interaction, members are encouraged to discuss the issues that affect their operations, contributing ideas and proposals in order to shape the policy environment.
UMA supports the evolution of public/private partnerships in which continuous dialogue with government and other development partners has created a solid mechanism that allows regular exchange of views and opinions.
Through this dialogue, the Association has been able to achieve public support for the implementation of policies that promote the growth of industry in Uganda.
UMA however recognises that developing an appropriate policy framework is a continuous challenge and we are committed to strengthening the capacity of the private sector to influence the policy environment.
Members have an opportunity to shape policies that affect their operations through contribution of their ideas and proposals to UMA. UMA maintains an active dialogue with Government in order to influence the policy making and implementation process for the benefit of members.
Membership Support and Regional Outreach: UMA has established a strong profile as a national business support organization representing the interests of its members. The Association maintains a strong membership services unit that caters for the interests of individual member enterprises. Apart from the membership office at the head office, two regional offices have been set op in Jinja (Eastern Uganda) and Mbarara (Western Uganda) to support members interests in these areas.
Trade Fairs and Exhibitions: UMA organises local, regional and international trade fairs and exhibitions; the shows are important in promoting locally manufactured goods and services; the annual UGITF attracts many participants and visitors.
