Our Children Our Hope Foundation (OCOH) was founded and registered in 2020 when some ladies started providing food and clean water to vulnerable children and members of their community in #Epworth. There are 4 registered members who contribute their own funds to supplement the generosity of the community and other civil organisations.
The organisation started in response to the need that arose due to COVID-19 lockdowns and did not anticipate the complexities associated with the formalisation needed to legally attend to the vast needs of the community. They encountered delays in registering due to limited funds and food shortages. Despite the challenges, Caroline (one of the founders) states that “Our community is happy with our ability to feed.”

In 2018 ZAN had to undergo a rebranding process in order to cope with ever changing developments in the HIV and AIDS sector such as dynamics of the epidemic; TB and other NCDs which has to be contextualized into the SDGs and changes in the funding environment. The organization has assumed the name; Zimbabwe AIDS Network: Civil Society Coordinating Platform on HIV/AIDS, SRHR and Health. The network membership includes CBOs and CSOs responding to HIV, TB and programming around Sexual Reproductive Health (SRHR) and other non-communicable diseases; Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) involved in health promotion interventions and mission hospitals also constitute part of the network membership.

Communities have a constitutional right to benefit from resources in their areas in line with Section 13 (4) on National Development. Given government’s inclination to open Zimbabwe for business, there is an ominous risk that investors get prioritised over community rights is ominous. In March 2019, the Minister of Finance, Prof Mthuli Ncube boasted that government has so far sealed US$8 billion deals in the mining sector. But the exact connection between mining mega deals and benefits accruable to communities are not clear. The mining deals are not open for public scrutiny despite the constitutional requirement that Parliament must play and oversight role during negotiation of mining agreements together with performance monitoring of existing mining contracts – Section 315 (2) (c).
