Del Monte Fresh Produce is a leading supplier of Hass avocados sourced from Mexico, Chile, Peru and California with product available on a year-round basis. Hass is the leading avocado variety with over 95% of volume. Hass avocados have a distinctive pebbly skin that turns from green to purplish-black when ripe, though color is not always the best indicator of ripeness. Contrary to their rough and blackish exterior, the pulp is pale green with a creamy texture and excellent taste. Avocados provide nearly 20 essential vitamins and minerals: potassium, folic acid and other B-vitamins, vitamin E, vitamin K as well as several phytonutrients. The pulp is full of poly-unsaturated oils which some recent studies have shown reduce cholesterol levels and may result in better heart health. Del Monte® avocados can be enjoyed year round in salads, soups, as a side dish, on a sandwich and of course guacamole. Some cultures prepare avocados in ice cream or in a milk shake.
