Our History
Aureol Insurance Company was formed in November 1986 following the closure of two British Insurance companies operating in Sierra Leone - The Lion Insurance Company (Ltd) which was formerly called the Guardian Royal Exchange, and the Northern Assurance Company.
Both companies closed as a result of the massive devaluation of the local currency by the Ministry of Finance in 1986. Aureol Insurance Company was formed to fill the gap that was created due to the above mentioned companies shutdown of their business operations in Sierra Leone.
Aureol Insurance Company is registered as an Insurance Company under the Sierra Leone Insurance Act of 2000. The company has a paid up capital in excess of Le 1.3 billion and assets of over Le 27.0 billion Leones. It is the first indigenous public liability company in Sierra Leone. The
