UMWALIMU SACCO is a Savings and Credit Cooperative for the Rwandan Teachers mandated to empower the members towards uplifting their social-economic welfare and to contribute to socio-economic development of the community in which they live. This noble cause was initiated by the President of the Republic of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul KAGAME. Mobilizing a pool of savings and later be offered loans at competitive interest rate are the core activities of the cooperative.
UMWALIMU SACCO was created in June 2006 as per Ministerial Order nº 43/15.00/06 dated 21st June 2006 and accepted by the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) to operate as Financial Institution on 22nd February 2008 as per Microfinance License nº 698 issued on November 24th 2009 by BNR. It was also recognized by Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA) on 16th August 2010 and was issued a cooperative certificate with reference RCA/995/2019.
